TAHLTAN
Tahltan territory encompasses a massive 93,933 square kilometer area in Northwestern British Columbia. The western boundary of territory runs parallel to the Alaska/BC border, with the northern boundary running north into part of the Yukon. The eastern boundary includes the Spatsizi Plateau and the sacred headwaters of the Stikine, Nass and Skeena rivers, while the southern boundary lies just south of Bell II. The Tahltan people make up over half of the residents in the territory, most of whom live in three main communities: Iskut, Dease Lake and Telegraph Creek.
There are five Timber Supply Areas that overlap Tahltan territory: the Cassiar TSA, Nass TSA, Prince George TSA, Mackenzie TSA and Fort Nelson TSA. However, the accessible forestry opportunities within Tahltan territory are located in the Cassiar and Nass TSAs.
NorthPac Forestry Group Ltd. works directly with Tahltan members, the Tahltan Central Government and the Tahltan Nation Development Corporation (TNDC) on various resource development projects on their territory. In 2019, Tahltan Forestry Ltd. was formed, a joint company between TNDC and NorthPac, with the purpose of managing all forestry activities within Tahltan territory. This includes managing the Tahltan First Nations Woodland License N3E, as well as participating in any forestry work on major projects such as mines.
The strong leadership exhibited by both the Tahltan Central Government and TNDC make it a privilege to be one of the companies they have chosen to do business with.
